September Happenings

Reading and Writing:

We will launch our Reader's Workshop.  It will give us an opportunity to explore some reading strategies.  Try to read each night in order to improve your fluency and reading comprehension.

During Writer’s Workshop, we will introduce Writer's Notebooks.  They will house many fabulous stories throughout the year.  Be sure to bring some items that can be used to decorate the notebook, as well as placed on our All About Me projects.  Some ideas to bring in are pictures, drawings, tickets, and other items that are meaningful and tell us about you.

Math:

Our first unit in Everyday Math will review addition and subtraction facts.  We will also review place value.  These concepts will help us feel secure to introduce other topics that are brand new to us in later units.

Science:

Chemistry is the first topic we will study.  We will explore properties and states of matter.  We will also have an opportunity to conduct experiments with a variety of substances.  Get ready to become scientists!
