Classroom News

Dear Parents,

Hello! My name is Christine Vandegrift and I wanted to introduce myself as your child’s second grade teacher. I hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the school year as much as I am.

Second grade is going to be a very important year in your child’s academic career. I look forward to an interactive year between us. I feel that education is most successful when the parents and teachers work together. I will be sending home with your child a SWIRL binder which is helpful with organizing our daily papers, homework and important information. Please check their red, Take-Home folder every day, as well as their agendas for their daily homework assignments. Please check and sign every night and have your child bring the binder back to school every day. This serves as a means of communication between us. I will put notes, homework sheets and any other information that needs to be sent home. Please send any notes or lunch money in the zipper pouch. If you are sending in money for any reason please send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it. I will check for it every morning.

We will be having a short working snack every afterneeon. Please send in a healthy, PEANUT FREE snack for your child. I ask that you do not send in juice boxes or anything that requires a fork or spoon as we are limited on time.

Over the next couple of days we will be getting to know each other. I am sending home “personality bags” for your child. I would like each child to bring in three personal items to describe themselves or their interests. Each day we will choose a bag and unpack in front of the class and try to guess the bags owner. It is a fun way for students to share information about themselves with their classmates. This is a fun, optional activity, and not meant to make any child feel uncomfortable. Please let me know if there is a problem.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. I can be reached at school during the day at 298-2600 ext. 4135 or you can e-mail me

I look forward to meeting you soon!
